We're in it for the $$$: Facts about "The Crow" you didn know

This comic book series started it all.

Those who were teens in the 90's would agree, that Crow was the movie of the decade for all demented souls. Nightwatch and I were, and still are, big fans of The Crow. We have watched it countless of times and it will still be the pick for a movie night at home. The Gothic culture was introduced and appreciated only after the release of the movie. It wasn't weird to like it anymore.

Here's a little tip about how the movie came along...

The Crow is a comic book series created by James O'Barr. The story was born out of James O'Barr's personal tradegy. The series was originally written by O'Barr as a means of getting over his girlfriend's death at the hands of a drunk driver. It was later published in 1989, and became an underground success. The main character, Eric, is modeled after two musical influences on O'Barr's life.

Firstly, Joy Division lead singer Ian Curtis, whose melancholic lyrics and spastic onstage dance movements (he was actually epileptic) inspired the character Eric the Crow! Ian Curtis hanged himself at the age of 23. He was Kurt Cobain of the 70's.

Secondly, Bauhaus lead singer Peter Murphy inspired his imposing physical presence, ghostly makeup, and sharp, high cheek bones.

Additionally, the names of Officer Albrecht and Captain Hook were from Joy Division members Bernard (Albrecht) Sumner and Peter Hook. Why Ian Curtis lyrics inspired O'Barr, maybe this is why...From the album unknown pleasures.
